Superstitions?

I fear in the matter of superstition I've made myself a hypocrite. In the privacy of myself I may just be one of the most superstitious people alive but among others I shoot down stories of the paranormal and denounce bad luck and karma or special rites and rituals. All the same, at 2 am in the morning, when by all rights I should be getting beneath my sheets as soon as possible, I find myself confirming that, yes the water in the tub has been drained or that I've made sure that my chair is in a sitting position and not reclined, because, if not, great misfortune will befall me during the night. Honestly, I have thought that way before. It's all I can do to resist forwarding an email to all of my friends under the threat of a dead girl cutting of my toes in my sleep or some other bull yet when I read a chain letter with a friend a good laugh as I delete it. So the question I pose to you others out there is do all people create these little fears and/or superstitions for themselves despite whether they actively believe in such things?
